Come on over to my new blog: What Do You Want From Me? Rants, Ramblings and Rhapsodies from the QUEEN OF THE ROAD

Please see my new blog (now regularly updated) and website (it's amazing, if I do say so myself - not that I had anything to do with the design. I have AuthorBytes to thank for that!). This is my last post on this blog, please come on over to my new place to see what we're up to!

Web design very handy, thanxa lot for this blog .. This was what I was lookimg for.
The True Tale of 47 States, 22,000 Miles, 200 Shoes, 2 Cats, 1 Poodle, a Husband, and a Bus with a Will of Its Own. Available June 10, 2008 from Broadway Books, an imprint of Random House
Growing up a Princess from the Island of Long (with no desire to be promoted to Queen of the Long Narrow Aisle, but I’m getting ahead of myself) I loved to write, but didn’t think I could make a living at it. So, what was a Jewish only child to do? Why, go to medical school, of course.
Then, I met Tim, a fellow psychiatry resident. We’ve been together ever since, progressing through the all important M’s -- Monogamy, Moving in, Mortgage and Matrimony. And now, unfortunately, Motor home. But, I’m getting ahead of myself, again.
Then, my first book was published. I started writing screenplays. I cut down my practice. I was quite content. Tim, working 60 hours a week, was not. His solution: a midlife career break, living in a converted bus for a year with our pets, traveling the country.
“Why can’t you be like a normal husband in a midlife crisis and have an affair or buy a Corvette?” I demanded. “I will never, EVER, live in a bus.”
Tim’s obviously the better shrink, for I've since come to this: I count among my greatest accomplishments that our bus was the centerfold of Bus Conversions magazine, thus fulfilling my lifelong ambition of becoming a Miss September.
with questions/comments and to be notified of giveaways/ contests for books/other fun stuff -- events, too. Please include your city, state/province in your email - I'd love to know if we traveled in your area. Addresses will NEVER be sold or shared.
And, check back often. Starting December '07 we're on the road once more and I'll be blogging regularly. So much to say - about living in the bus again, what's happening with Queen of the Road from submission to my editor through the publication date, screenwriting (my manager is nagging me - in a good way), Project Nerd's latest exploits and of course, the pets' newest adorable photo-ops.
What do you get when...
...you cram married shrinks -- one in a midlife crisis, the other his shoe-crazed, wise-cracking wife -- two cats who hate each other and a Standard Poodle who loves licking them all, into a bus for a year? Queen of the Road, a memoir of my dysfunctional, multi-species family's travels to and travails in 47 states. (See the blog archive 2004-2005 for posts and more pictures from our year-long journey.)
Sunset over Lake Erie (if you knew me, you'd know it wasn't sunrise).
Mt. Poodle
Acadia National Park, ME (sunset, again).
I am the God of Television
Project Nerd fixing the satellite TV...
... getting locked out of the bus and...
... cleaning up after the fire and...
... finally, finding his bliss.
And a new bliss of mine, discovered on our trip... photography. This photo taken in Tracy Arm, AK.
(One should always have more than one bliss, shouldn't one?)
Morty...
...likes snoozing on the "dog bed"...
(although sometimes he lets Miles share)
Which is more than I can say for me when he snoozes on my laptop.
Only proving the Poodle is a bigger man than I. (In spite of the fact I ensured early on he was no man at all.)
(Which is why...
... Tim usually tries to sleep with one eye open.)
Although, how could anyone be angry with that face?
Either of them, actually.
As for Shula...
... if Miles has to hear one more toll booth operator say, "What a gorgeous cat!"
he will throw himself into the ocean.
OOPS!
Let's find him a good place to dry out.
Death Valley during the "hundred year bloom." Nearby Las Vegas proves a lousey place for his parents to dry out. I mean, look at the crazy thing we did!
